Northern ShineJan 12, 2019, 12:00 AMHS Sambuca Nero. Although this does not have the strong anise taste you would expect is a Sambuca, it is exactly as described. The deep purple color is also unexpected but attractive. I love elderberries, but their flavor is hard to work with, so I was interested by this drink. It's the elderberry flavor and color that makes this drink different. It makes a very attractive after dinner drink on ice.

Carmine TaffuriDec 10, 2017, 12:00 AMcolor. To call this black sambuca, is a disservice! The color is more like ink, and not dark ink. I used (2) two pouches to (1) 750ml bottle of Everclear, and got a fine tasting, but weak colored drink. I also had to re calibrate all my recipes, because unlike the 50ml bottles I used to get from Still Spirits, your product is only 40ml, and no matter how careful I was, I lost some each time I opened a pouch. Go back to bottles, please.
Response from Brewhaus: Please note that this essence is designed to replicate the likes of Opal Nera, which is considered among the best 'Black' Sambucas, and are a deep purple, not black. This is noted in the product description. Regarding volume, these are not the same as any other brand of essence, but there are mixing instructions on the package and the website.
We stopped using bottles due to the weight and environmental factor. If you squeeze the top as you open the package, it will seal until you are ready to dispense the essence.
