Made from stone coal, our 0.4 – 1.4mm Activated Carbon is a premium-grade carbon with higher cleaning surface. Activated carbon filtration is suggested when trying to achieve a pure, neutral spirit and is not intended for filtering product where residual character, aroma, and color are necessary, such as whisky, rum, or schnapps.
The difference between our 0.4 – 0.85mm premium carbon and this 0.4 – 1.4mm premium carbon is that the granules in this carbon are slightly larger, which allows it to be reused many more times than the smaller, 0.4 – 0.85mm size carbon because the granules gradually become smaller with each use. However, if you do reuse your activated carbon, there is a specific process that you must follow to rinse and dry the carbon in between each use, which can prolong the life of your carbon. To learn more about this, refer to our free e-book on Activated Carbon here.

Activated Stone Carbon. I used .4/.85 carbon for years with good results. I recently bought more and also bought .4/1.4 and mixed them together and produced better tasting spirits, comparable to top shelf vodka. I went from the plastic filter unit to the SS unit at the same time, so I can’t say for sure the carbon is the reason, but the result is the best stuff I’ve ever made, and as good as any vodka I’ve ever bought.

ACTIVATED CARBON, 0.4-1.4MM. I have regenerated this many times with good results. Make sure to follow the instructions for preparation. and maintenance and it will last a long time.

I have a Megahome distiller to make distilled water. For a while I was using the coconut carbon that comes with the distiller. Stopped using the coconut and bought the activated carbon .4-1-4mm. After a couple of months of using the AC I went back to the coconut carbon. Even the wife tasted the difference. So I went back to using the AC for now on. I have also tried the carbon they sell at the pet store. Don’t ever use that. It taste horrible. The carbon here is the best and is good in the water distillers for 2 months. Could not be any happier.
