Very nice, but not really charred. So I now have 4 of these and will probably buy more later. Very well built and a real nice pewter tap that screws on, but the char is really really light. To the extent that you could consider them just toasted. The hoops are thick metal and so I have been able to open up the end and re char them to my liking. They sealed up very nicely after I put them back together. I wish the bung hole cap was better made than the cheap cork… Fantastic for rum, not as much for whisky ( just my tastes I guess)
