Rick’s Picks™ High Malt Bourbon Mash Kit – Rich Grain Bourbon Kit
Make a rich, full-bodied bourbon at home with the Rick’s Picks™ High Malt Bourbon Mash Kit, a premium bourbon mash kit developed by Certified Bourbon Steward Rick Morris for distillers who want deeper grain flavor than traditional bourbon.
This mash bill increases the amount of malted barley while keeping a strong corn base, producing a whiskey with added body, toasted grain notes, and excellent fermentation performance. The higher malt content provides natural enzymes for conversion, while professional alpha-amylase ensures reliable results.
Flaked grains make mashing simple, and the included distillers yeast with gluco-amylase enzymes allows the mash to ferment cleanly to approximately 9–10% ABV.
Rice hulls are included to keep the mash loose and easy to stir, making this grain mash kit for distilling ideal for fermenting and distilling on the grain.
This style produces a bourbon with extra depth and a rich finish that responds especially well to oak aging.
Batch Size & Volume
This recipe uses 9–9.5 gallons of water with a 19 lb grain bill.
Total mash volume with grain is approximately 10.5–11 gallons.
If the grain is removed before fermentation or distillation, the remaining liquid will be approximately 7 gallons.
For best results, we recommend fermenting on the grain.
When fermented properly, the wash will typically reach approximately 9–10% ABV before distillation.
