This wheated bourbon mash bill replaces rye with wheat, creating a whiskey mash known for its smooth character and rounded finish. A high percentage of corn provides sweetness and body, while wheat adds softness and a creamy mouthfeel. Malted barley supplies natural enzymes and depth of flavor for reliable conversion and clean fermentation.
Flaked grains make mashing simple without cooking, and professional alpha-amylase enzymes help achieve efficient starch conversion. The included distillers yeast with gluco-amylase enzymes allows this whiskey mash kit to ferment completely to approximately 9–10% ABV.
Rice hulls are included to improve mash consistency and prevent clumping, making this grain mash kit for home distilling ideal for fermenting and distilling on the grain.
Batch Size & Volume
This recipe uses 9–9.5 gallons of water with a 19 lb grain bill.
Total mash volume with grain is approximately 10.5–11 gallons.
If the grain is removed before fermentation or distillation, the remaining liquid will be approximately 7 gallons.
For best results, we recommend fermenting on the grain.
When fermented properly, the wash will typically reach approximately 9–10% ABV before distillation.
Flavor Profile
Smooth and sweet with rich corn character, soft wheat notes, and warm caramel and vanilla flavors. Low spice with a rounded finish that becomes especially rich after oak aging.
