Rick’s Picks™ Rye Whiskey Mash Kit – American Rye Grain Kit
Produce a traditional American rye at home with the Rick’s Picks™ Rye Whiskey Mash Kit, a premium rye whiskey mash kit developed for distillers who want a spicier, more assertive whiskey.
This recipe uses a high percentage of rye balanced with corn and malted barley to create a mash with strong flavor and classic rye character. Flaked grains allow easy starch conversion, and the included alpha-amylase enzymes ensure reliable performance even with high rye content.
Distillers yeast with gluco-amylase enzymes helps complete fermentation to approximately 9–10% ABV, while rice hulls improve mash texture and prevent sticking. This makes it an excellent grain mash kit for distilling.
This whiskey making kit is ideal for fermenting and distilling on the grain for true traditional rye whiskey flavor.
Batch Size & Volume
This recipe uses 9–9.5 gallons of water with a 19 lb grain bill.
Total mash volume with grain is approximately 10.5–11 gallons.
If the grain is removed before fermentation or distillation, the remaining liquid will be approximately 7 gallons.
For best results, we recommend fermenting on the grain.
When fermented properly, the wash will typically reach approximately 9–10% ABV before distillation.
Flavor Profile
Spicy and complex with pronounced rye character, peppery notes, light sweetness, and hints of toasted grain and oak. Dry, bold finish typical of classic rye whiskey.
